Helle Henning feat. Kenny Wollesen

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Helle Henning (Vocal / DK)Nikolaj Hess (Piano / DK)Daniel Franck (Bass / SE)Kenny Wollesen (Drums / US)Guest: Mathias Heise (Harmonica / DK)

You’ll need a great deal of self-confidence when you fly to New York and go to the studio with the American drummer Kenny Wollesen, who plays regularly with guitarist Bill Frisell. But singer/songwriter Helle Henning has no reason to hide behind the walls. As one of our highly experienced and naturally confident performers, she is always the guarantor of a well-prepared and captivating concert when she goes on stage.

Helle Henning's beautiful compositions and always rich texts are in a class of their own. She has always delivered and will always deliver. It is therefore always a pleasure to follow the development in her music, which will continue to enrich us with distinguished listening experiences. Wollesen is on stage, and Nikolaj Hess and Daniel Franck complete the group that will embrace our ear canals on this beautiful summer evening.

Anders Bergcrantz: Elevate

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Anders Bergcrantz (Trumpet / SE)Tomas Franck (Tenor Sax / SE)Chico Lindvall (Guitar / SE)Sven-Erik Lundeqvist (Piano / SE)Lars Lundström (Bass / SE)Niclas Campagnol (Drums / SE)

Anders Bergcrantz steps up on Montmartre’s stage once again, this time with the newly released album “Elevate”. And if there’s a musician who lifts up the music, it’s Bergcrantz. He has been awarded with the distinguished award as “Best Jazz Trumpet Player in the World” two times by the acknowledged jazz blog “Jazz Station” by Arnaldo De’Souteiro, and his extremely potent and aggressive play has since the 80’s been a constant source of satisfaction for jazz lovers.

Stylistically, we are back in the 70’s and 80’s when Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw set the agenda – while Bergcrantz adds inspirations from all that music which has influenced jazz since. This evening, Anders Bergcrantz brings some of the sister country’s absolute best musicians. Look forward to experiencing physical and acoustic jazz that blows you away, while the soul gets a nice round of rhythmical massage.

Bodilsen/Milder/Weber/Gatto

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jesper Bodilsen (Bass / DK)Joakim Milder (Tenor Sax / SE)Florian Weber (Piano / DE)Roberto Gatto (Drums / IT)

One of the country’s busiest bassist’s, Jesper Bodilsen, has – at the request of Jazzhus Montmartre – gathered his “dream team”, which makes its debut this evening.

Bodilsen proudly carries the Danish bass torch on and adds extra sparks, which are highly inspired by his great international work. The Swedish tenor saxophonist Joakim Milder has with his always well-considered and tuneful play been one of the sister country’s most respected musicians for many years and will contribute with the special Swedish melancholy. The German pianist Florian Weber has a grand international career with releases at the record company ECM among others, and the Italian drummer Roberto Gatto will contribute with his Southern European temperament. Overall, we can expect an evening with richly varied, contemporary European music with emphasis on jazz.

Snorre Kirk Quartet with Stephen Riley

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Snorre Kirk (Drums / DK)Stephen Riley (Tenor Sax / US)Magnus Hjorth (Piano / DK)Anders Fjeldsted (Bass / DK)

It’s always a pleasure when jazz musicians decide to concentrate on an already defined musical expression and then work on giving it its own colors. Drummer Snorre Kirk is the best example of this succeeding. He has through the years continued to simplify and refine his play and compositions, and today stands as one of the country’s finest torch bearers of the “classical” jazz.

The music is well laid-out, but never academic. The great groove is always present. And then Kirk always surrounds himself with musicians who think analogously. Here is his regular and solidly well played-together trio extended with the fine, American tenor Stephen Riley – also a cherished guest in Jazzhus Montmartre throughout the years. Great and persuasive jazz played by musicians who love the music.

Thumbscrew

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Mary Halvorson (Guitar / US)Michael Formanek (Bass / US)Tomas Fujiwara (Drums / US)

This American trio was created by a coincidence! The three musicians had all been hired for a random job but found that their musical chemistry was so unique that they continued the collaboration. Over time, they have gained a great deal of respect from a grateful audience for their ability to engage in an almost telepathic interplay. With this trio, we are in the part of jazz that requires a little more attention than usual.

The music is open, lively, humorous, and not least challenging. But if you have jumped on the bandwagon, you are guaranteed a great and satisfying experience. So, take a seat, fasten your seat belt, hold on tight with your thumbs and let Thumbscrew show the way into their unique musical universe.

Nils Landgren/Jan Lundgren: Kristallen

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Nils Landgren (Trombone/Vocal / SE)Jan Lundgren (Piano / SE)

These two musicians are among Sweden's finest jazz artists. The trombone player and singer Nils Landgren is primarily known for his funky tunes, and beautiful vocal on his many soul/jazz releases. The pianist Jan Lundgren is at the very top of the list of heirs to Jan Johansson's piano throne, which has been empty since the legend Johansson passed away back in 1968.

The experienced listener will argue that this is an almost impossible genre mix. But it is exactly the differences of these two musicians, that is the element of wonder. The deep respect they have for each other encourages a musical output that works almost perfectly. We can expect both dew-fresh versions of Swedish folk melodies and compositions by Keith Jarrett, Abdullah Ibrahim and Leonard Bernstein. Everything is performed superbly and captivatingly by the two musicians.

Rosalia De Souza/Jonas Johansen Brazilian Project

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Rosalia De Souza (Vocal / BR)Jonas Johansen (Drums / DK)Hans Ulrik (Tenor Sax / DK)Mats Andersson (Guitar / SE)Steen Rasmussen (Piano / DK)Graig Earle (Bass / CA)

Brazilian-born Rosalia De Souza is a wonderful singer with an extensive knowledge of the Rio-Brazilian song treasure. She is incredibly musical and wonderfully charismatic when she’s on stage interpretating the group's original compositions. The group's beat and base are built around Steen Rasmussen's and Jonas Johansen's many years of collaboration combined with Graig Earle and Mats Andersson, which are the group's two new refreshing elements. In addition, saxophonist Hans Ulrik participates these evenings as a special guest.

The music is of course Brazilian inspired, but the Scandinavian musicians have their very own take on how it should sound and find in the interaction with De Souza, a completely original vibe. It is an international group with an international sound characterized by musicians who gather colors, sounds and ideas from all around the world.
