Dahl/Hagans/Åman/Uotila: Directions

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Carsten Dahl (Piano / DK)Tim Hagans (Trumpet / DK)Johnny Åman (Bass / SE)Jukkis Uotila (Drums / FI)

This quartet has never actually played together before. When they step on the stage and play music in the moment these three August nights in the Montmartre, it will truly be historic. The quartet mainly plays standards but with an original seeking idea of being composing players/ playing composers finding new horizontal and vertical directions in the music.

The idea came across when Tim and Carsten were teaching together in a jazz college in 2019 and found a mutual musical understanding and curiosity about exploring space in already existing known standard songs. All four musicians have long and fascinating careers all over the world and the audience can expect a powerful, lyrical and hard swinging intervention between four creative giants of jazz.

Mette Juul Quartet

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Mette Juul (Vocal/Guitar / DK)Peter Rosendal (Piano / DK)Thomas Fonnesbæk (Bass / DK)Zoltán Csörsz (Drums / SE)

The Danish singer Mette Juul does not make it harder and more complicated than it is. There is a liberating calm in her vocal, whether she sings standards or presents her own very beautiful and melodic songs.

As a listener you are captured by Mette Juul's honest communication of the deeply personal lyrics, sat to beautiful melodies. She is developing from release to release, from concert to concert, and has earned a place at the very top of Scandinavian song soloists. The musical trio backing Juul does simply not come any better and will surround Juuls vocal in a beautiful harmonic blanket.

Enrico Pieranunzi (Piano / IT)Thomas Fonnesbæk (Bass / DK)André Ceccarelli (Drums / FR)

This new established trio will make their grant debut in front of a Danish audience performing at Jazzhus Montmartre. The trio brings together three European jazz giants from three different European countries: the piano player Enrico Pieranunzi, probably one of the most admired Italian jazz musicians, the drummer André Ceccarelli, a true icon of French jazz, and the always flawless Danish bass player Thomas Fonnesbæk. Imagination, feeling and interplay are the three key words that make this trio an extraordinary unit of spectacular creativity and impact. This is indeed a trio you do not want to miss.

Oliver Skou-Due Kvintet / Jazzkonkurrencen

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Oliver Skou-Due (Piano / DK)Isak Schiødt (Tenor Sax / DK)Malthe Kaptain (Trumpet / DK)Lukas Loeb (Bass / DK)Mikkel Blæsild Vuust (Drums / DK)

Oliver Skou-Due Kvintet is based on the 21-year-old pianist Oliver Skou-Due's compositions from his debut album "Just an Album". Jazz reviewer Niels Overgård has stated about the record: "With charming modesty, the mere 21-year-old pianist, Oliver Skou-Due, has called his debut album" Just An Album” (…) Yes, in the vast amount of music that is out there, Oliver Skou-Due's record is just another album. But for Oliver Skou-Due, it is a huge step into the world of music"

With an unimpressed freshness, the quintet's music jumps between the different styles of jazz, alternating between pompous numbers and a more playful impro-jazz. The whole thing is spiced with large amounts of high spirits and a good portion of madness, which to a great extent leaves respect, and a desire to hear more from the young musicians.

Oliver Skou-Due Kvintet is one of the four finalists in Jazzkonkurrencen 2020 and has in that context been given the possibility to perform as a headliner at Jazzhus Montmartre. The concert is presented in collaboration with JazzDanmark and Gangstedfonden.

Students/under 26: 50% off

Oliver Skou-Due Kvintet tager udgangspunkt i den 21-årige jazzpianist Oliver Skou-Dues kompositioner fra hans debutalbum ”Just An Album”.

Manu Le Prince: Tribute to João Gilberto & Tom Jobim

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Manu Le Prince (Vocal / FR)Julian Le Prince Caetano (Piano / BR)Acelino de Paula (Bass / BR)Zaza Desiderio (Drums / BR)

It’s always interesting to follow the development in music in other countries; especially when the bet is on personal contributions to already established music. The French singer and composer Manu Le Prince is in front of the row when we talk of Brazilian music; whether bossa-nova, samba or newer still-growing forms. Le Prince has experience in fusion music as well as more pop-oriented music, but her current expression approaches the authentic Braz-jazz more and more. Here, she presents, with her own group consisting of Brazilian musicians, a repertoire that celebrates the Brazilian songwriter giants João Gilberto and Tom Jobim.

Julia Werup feat. Thomas Blachman: The Thrill of Love

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Julia Werup (Vocal / SE)Thomas Blachman (Drums/Producer / DK)Sven Erik Lundeqvist (Piano / SE)Johnny Åman (Bass / SE)

The poet and singer Julia Werup move into new territory in her latest musical project entitled ‘The Thrill of Loving You’. As a singer she is self-taught and has found her ability to effortlessly hit the notes precisely, far from the music conservatory's rehearsal rooms. Her voice and narrative have acquired a special and recognizable sound through an often complex life.

With her on stage are pianist Sven Erik Lundeqvist, bassist Johnny Åman and drummer and producer Thomas Blachman. The group experiments with some of the mythical tracks from the great songbook of jazz and is searching for a sound that is meditative and groovy. This is music that rises from a style-conscious, Nordic collaboration that will sound elegant and swinging and at the same time reach to the soul's longing for clarification and hope.

The Thrill of Loving You”.

Driving Miles

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Hans Henrik Clemensen (Actor / DK)Anders Malta (Trumpet / DK)Zier Romme (Piano / DK)Rune Fog-Nielsen (Bass / DK)Cornelia Nilsson (Drums / SE)

The performance "Driving Miles" revolves around Svein Åge's fictional friend, the scrap dealer Steinar, and his encounter with Miles' music at a legendary concert in Montreux in 1989. The concert becomes a revelation for Steinar, and it completely changes his attitude towards life. The performance becomes the classic tale of the meeting between the ordinary man and the great art with the music as the focal point. Steinar's encounter with Miles' legendary music therefore forms the framework for a poetic, deeply personal and nuanced tribute to the power of art and music.

Hans Henrik Clemensen plays the role of Steinar. On stage he is surrounded by a jazz quartet consisting of Anders Malta, Zier Romme Larsen, Cornelia Nilsson and Tune Fog-Nielsen. After the performance “Driving Miles”, the quartet will play a short concert.

This show is presented in a collaboration between Parteatret Frederikssund og Jazzhus Montmartre.

Instead, it is designed for an experienced interplay that moves through different styles and time periods - from Oscar Peterson to Keith Jarrett.

With a spectacular elegance and virtuoso technique, the Romanian star pianist, Marian Petrescu, will take lead in these concerts. By his side is the internationally renowned bassist Joel Locher from Stuttgart, and behind the drums sits none other than the Danish drum legend, Alex Riel, who in the autumn of 2020 celebrated his 80th birthday with a series of fabulous concerts at Jazzhus Montmartre. This is trio jazz from the very top shelf, filled with swing, eccentricity and a unique level of quality.

Kathrine Windfeld Sextet

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Kathrine Windfeld (Piano / DK)Tomasz Dabrowski (Trumpet / PL)Hannes Bennich (Alto Sax / SE)Marek Konarski (Tenor Sax / PL)Johannes Vaht (Bass / DK)Henrik Holst Hansen (Drums / DK)

Suddenly, she was there. A staggeringly talented, independent and not least original composer, arranger and pianist. All at once! Kathrine Windfeld took everyone by storm when she appeared not so long ago. And she has since built on her formidable abilities to create music for large ensembles. The music is not only captivating and melodic, but with respect, Windfeld builds on the form of composition that was introduced by i.a. Thad Jones.

Here we get Kathrine Windfeld with her explosive sextet consisting of young Nordic and Polish musicians. It's quite a treat to get the chance to enjoy this music on the stage of Jazzhus Montmartre. The room will be enveloped in the most beautiful tunes when Kathrine Windfeld Sextet starts counting in, and we will have the opportunity to take in what is guaranteed to be a big part of the expression for jazz music in the future.

Hvalfugl feat. Jakob Sørensen

Jonathan Fjord Bredholt (Piano / DK)Jeppe Lavsen (Guitar / DK)Anders Juel Bomholt (Bass / DK)Jakob Sørensen (Trumpet / DK)

The Aarhus trio Hvalfugl belongs to an exciting young generation of Danish musicians who build a bridge between Nordic folk music and the sound of jazz. The trio's third album "Øjeblikke Vi Husker" from 2020, ended up on Jazznyt's top-10 list of best Danish jazz releases, and the group has really stormed forward in the Danish jazz landscape - and with good reason. On this evening the trio will feature the award-winning trumpetist Jakob Sørensen, who, like Hvalfugl, seeks the deep, Nordic sound.

There is a bubbling freshness in Hvalfugl's bid on how jazzed folk music should sound in our time. It is music that with its Nordic sound is able to strike down into the Danish soul, and at the same time follow the virtues of trio jazz in a very elegant way. With their playful interplay and dreamy sound, you are led towards hilly landscapes and bright Nordic summer nights. The tones of Hvalfugl are able to break down boundaries and at the same time open up new paths, where jazz and nature merge into one.

Pierre Dørge & New Jungle Orchestra: 41 Year Anniversary

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Pierre Dørge (Guitar/Conductor / DK)Gunnar Halle (Trumpet / DK)Jakob Mygind (Soprano/Tenor Sax / NO)Anders Banke (Clarinet/Bass Clarinet/Tenor Sax / DK)Kenneth Agerholm (Trombone / DK)Irene Becker (Piano/Synthesizer / DK)Thommy Andersson (Bass / SE)Ayi Solomon (African Percussion / GA)Martin Andersen (Drums / DK)

One of Denmark’s absolute great national orchestras in jazz is called New Jungle Orchestra. Due to COVID-19, we unfortunately had to cancel the concert that was to celebrate the orchestra's 40th anniversary in 2020. Fortunately, we can celebrate the orchestra's 41 years with this concert!

NJO has through their traveling all over the world established their sound and a musical expression that collects inspiration from music from the Nordic countries to Sibiria, India, Bali, USA, Africa, The Middle East and The Deer Park in Denmark – all these sources of inspiration are mixed, intertwined and interpreted so there is something for every listener. Incarnated jazz haters have been converted to unconditional jazz lovers after spending two sets with NJO, and even those who have heard NJO multiple times still have a sensational experience every time Pierre Dørge and his troop of well-trained improvisers take the stage. This night we can expect a sublime mixture of newly composed music and old NJO-hits in new versions. You’ll never leave a New Jungle Orchestra concert unaffected!
