Viktoria Tolstoy: Stations (Cancelled)

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Victoria Tolstoy (Vocal / SE)Krister Jonsson (Guitar / SE)Joel Lyssarides (Piano / SE)Mattias Svensson (Bass / SE)Rasmus Kihlberg (Drums / SE)

International media characterizes Viktoria Tolstoy’s voice as “crystal clear” and “unpretentious and natural”, and the Swedish singer has also succeeded in manifesting herself as one of the most successful jazz singers in Scandinavia since her debut release in 1996. The new album “Stations” from 2020 is based on her own life story and deals with her strong connection to the home country Sweden and her search for her Russian heritage. Tolstoy elegantly balances genres as jazz, pop, and folk music in an emotional – at times melodramatic – musical universe. Accompanied by her regular band and the rising star Joel Lyssarides, she will present a musical repertoire consisting of both interpretations of newer Scandinavian music and also classical jazz standards.

LIVESTREAM SUPPORT CONCERT

Four of Denmark's greatest jazz vocalists meet with a top trio for a support concert, where donations will support Montmartre's survival until we can reopen after the summer.

1st of July from 9PM we’ll livestream an hour of vocal jazz from Jazzhus Montmartre's stage. We have the honor of presenting a star line-up consisting of Cæcilie Norby, Sinne Eeg, Søren Sko and Bobo Moreno. Each one will sing selected songs accompanied by a top-class trio consisting of Jacob Christoffersen, Thomas Fonnesbæk and Morten Lund. Get ready and turn up the sound as these outstanding musicians brings jazz to your living room!

When the shutdown hit Denmark, Montmartre and the rest of the jazz community’s possibilities to do what we love and exist for vanished. We miss doing concerts for all our dear guests and fans! In May, Montmartre should have celebrated the 10th anniversary of the reopening in 2010. Instead we are inviting you all to a livestream concert from the non-profit venue in inner Copenhagen. A concert that we hope you will enjoy and support. Enjoy because you will experience some of the country's best musicians. And support because we hope you will contribute to securing Montmartre financially, until we can finally reopen again after the summer.

See you on Facebook and Youtube for jazz on 1/6 at 21:00!

The following albums “Europa” (2015), “Drummer & Composer” (2017) and “BEAT” (2018) paved the way for an international turning point in Kirk’s career and has brought him to some of the world’s leading jazz festivals in Europe, USA and Asia.

Henrik Gunde/Jesper Bodilsen Fellowship: Midsummer Tales

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Henrik Gunde (Piano / DK)Jesper Bodilsen (Bass / DK)

Hybrid concert: 34 tickets are in sales and the concert will be livestreamed to Montmartre’s Facebook and Youtube as well. Length of the concert is 60-75 min.

The award-winning musicians, Henrik Gunde (Ben Webster Award) and Jesper Bodilsen (Django d’Or), have played together in more than 20 years in different constellations including both trio and big band. The interplay is full of joy, and they take pleasure in practicing their joined love for the melody, the sound and the great groove.

Gunde and Bodilsen has after many years of run-up begun recording their first duo album in which the Danish folk tone is combined with the swing and improvised unpredictability of jazz. The room is high-ceilinged, when these two musicians meet, and the music acquires its own insisting life that is formed by their ability to seize the day and act on it.

We can look forward to a beautiful, present, swingy and unpredictable experience with reminiscence of Jan Johanssons “Jazz på Svenska” and also Charlie Haden and Keith Jarrett’s beautiful duo collaboration.

Koncerten varer 60-75 min.
