Black Art Jazz Collective

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Wayne Escoffery (Tenor Sax / US)Jeremy Pelt (Trumpet / US)James Burton (Trombone / US)Danny Grissett (Piano / US)Vincente Archer (Bass / US)Johnathan Blake (Drums / US)

Formed by a cross-section of contemporary jazz's leading voices, the Black Art Jazz Collective has a simple goal as political as it is salutary: create a platform for artists of the same generation to collaborate musically and promote the recognition of Afro-American cultural and political figures. BAJC debuted in 2013 at Jazz at Lincoln Center and is dedicated to celebrating African-American cultural and political icons, as well as preserving the historical significance of African Americans in Jazz. The band's debut recording received 4.5 stars in the October, 2016 issue if Downbeat Magazine and ever since they have been touring the US and Europe in support of that recording. We cannot wait to welcome BAJC to Jazzhus Montmartre for an evening of great significance.

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Alex Riel (Drums / DK)Palle Mikkelborg (Trumpet / DK)Bo Stief (Bass / DK)Carsten Dahl (Piano / DK)

Looking forward to three concerts with four living legends whose names all shine bright on the Danish jazz sky. In 1962-65, Alex Riel was brought in as the house drummer in Jazzhus Montmartre where he with NHØP and Bo Stief especially, learned the craftsmanship by playing with the international stars including names like Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster. Bo Stief also started his career in Montmartre in Store Regnegade, where he accompanied most of the soloists who came through Copenhagen at the time. Palle Mikkelborg is one of Denmark's most innovative and original jazz musicians ever. Since the 1960s he has challenged the musical conventions with his personal trumpet playing, his orchestras and his compositional crossover projects. Last but not least, Carsten Dahl, who as early as 14 years was a well-known studio musician, and at the age of 19 started at the Music Conservatory where he had the legendary American drummer Ed Thigpen as his teacher, before he eventually started playing the piano instead. These four virtuous stars should be experience at close range. We can’t wait!

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Martin Schack (Piano / DK)Christian Vuust (Sax / DK)Morten Ramsbøl (Bass / DK)Morten Lund (Drums / DK)

The title alone gives associations to the album you could easily call the Nordic version of ’Kind of Blue’. Jan Johansson's classic 'Jazz på svenska’ is often the reference point for what is called the Nordic tone of jazz. On Martin Schack's 'Jazz på Dansk', 12 songs, which many Danes have a close and personal relationship with, have been infused with jazz. With Morten Ramsbøl on the bass and Morten Lund behind the drums, Martin Schack has managed to create a highly recommendable album where the imagination runs freely and where the timing is superb. With respect throughout the album, the original melodies are being interpreted and poetically retold, and the result is a warm and summerlike record. Michael Olsen will join with his sax to play some jazz in Danish.

Katrine Madsen Kvartet

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Katrine Madsen (Vocal / DK)Henrik Gunde/Jacob Christoffersen (Piano / DK)Jesper Bodilsen (Bass / DK)Jonas Johansen (Drums / DK)

We are super excited to welcome Katrine Madsen back to Jazzhus Montmartre with her own quartet. Earlier Katrine Madsen has visited Montmartre with her beautiful interpretations of Ella Fitzgerald. Back then the critics received it well and positive and we are confident that Katrine will deliver again – like she always does. Katrine Madsen Kvartet delivers a fascinating mix of Katrine’s own material and standards - and as always, when Katrine sings, the stage is set for an evening of sit back, relax and enjoy one beautiful song after another. Kathrine Madsen Kvartet as a group is one of the best out there. Henrik Gunde (31/8) and Jacob Christoffersen (1/9) will accompany Madsen from the piano, both are considered to be some of the most vibrant personalities from the Danish jazz scene at the moment.
