Ellen & Svend Asmussen Prize & Six City Stompers

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Mads Mathias (Vocal and Saxophone / DK)Peter Marott (Trumpet / DK)Peter Rosendal (Piano / DK)Regin Fuhlendorf (Banjo / DK)Kasper Tagel (Bass / DK)Morten Ærø (Drums / DK)

Six City Stompers is perhaps the most successful young jazz band in Scandinavian. The sextet was formed by their common love of Louis Armstrong and their contribution to the traditional jazz scene is like a refreshing summer breeze. Six City Stompers excel within the traditional New Orleans jazz and the energy and feeling immediately pull you back to the early 1920s where names like King Oliver, Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet were roaming the clubs. This evening it’s the new generation who will be the focus, and the glow and joy from this ensemble is easy to hear. Six City Stompers play with enthusiasm, both from the book of good old evergreens and their own originals, and we couldn’t think of a better way to start Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

This evening, Ellen Asmussen will present and give the Ellen & Svend Asmussen Prize to promising artist, whose been chosen in spirit of Svend Asmussen.

Martin Wind Quartet

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Martin Wind (Bass / US)Scott Robinson (Tenor Sax / US)Bill Cunliffe (Piano / US)Joe La Barbera (Drums / US)

After establishing himself as a sideman and educator for most of his first decade in New York Martin Wind is proud to present his working band featuring the talents of Scott Robinson, Bill Cunliffe and Joe La Barbera. “…a sumptuous treat”, “…a seamless combination of swinging ensemble and lush orchestration work.” And downright “disgustingly beautiful” are some of the words tied to the Quartet. Martin Wind Quartet plays originals that partly result from the leader’s studies with Kenny Werner, Mike Holober and Jim McNeely. The band’s repertoire also includes classics such as Duke Ellington’s “Come Sunday”, Billy Strayhorn’s “Isfahan”, and Thelonious Monk’s “Bright Mississippi”. The band’s motto has always been “anything goes” – so it’s safe to say that we can expect everything from Martin Wind Quartet at Jazzhus Montmartre.

New York based Kirk Knuffke has slowly but surely evolved into one of the most exciting and creative cornet players on the jazz scene, and finally, Thommy Andersson who has been writing compositions and played with international format for several years. The music will be given safe conduct this evening and will move in every possible direction without warning.

Under Copenhagen Jazz Festival i 2016 spillede Josefine Cronholm, Kirk Knuffke og Thommy Andersson for første gang sammen, i hvad der viste sig at blive en fænomenal musikalsk opvisning. Bekkas/Kajfeš/Nordenström/Pasborg: Magic Spirit Quartet

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Majid Bekkas (Guimbre/Vocal / MA)Stefan Pasborg (Drums / DK)Goran Kajfeš (Trumpet / SE)Jesper Nordenström (Piano / Rhodes / SE)

It’s going to be super interesting when the Moroccan guembre player and vocalist, Majid Bekkas, will perform together with two of Sweden’s most recognized jazz musicians Goran Kajfeš and Jesper Nordenström and the Danish jazz giant Stefan Pasborg. Even though Majid Bekkas knows his guembre to the fullest, he also has a classical music upbringing and is a professor at the music conservatory in the Moroccan capital, Rabat. Trumpeter Goran Kajfeš draws influences from many different corners of the jazz genre, which can be heard through his African and Middle Eastern inspirations combined with his take on futuristic jazz and classical minimalism. His album “X/Y” was hailed by The Independent as jazz album of the year in 2011. Jesper Nordenström is a true master of the keys and Stefan Pasborg is one of the most acclaimed drummers in Denmark. The meeting between these four musicians is a unique chance to experience an unorthodox constellation and an experience that will surprise you.

Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2018.

Nils Landgren (Trombone / Vocal / SE)Jan Lundgren (Piano / SE)Mattias Svensson (Bass / SE)Morten Lund (Drums / DK)

Over the course of four evenings, the Swedish jazz pianist and artistic director at Montmartre, Jan Lundgren, will mesmerize us together with his fellow companions Nils Landgren, Mattias Svensson and Morten Lund. Jan Lundgren plays with an unmatched poetic sensitivity and he has managed to carry the legacy of Sweden's great pianist, Jan Johansson, like no other. "The Man with the Red Horn", also known as Nils Langren, has long been a decisive figure on the German label ACT Music. His skills in music, as a singer and as a composer cannot be questioned and in Scandinavian context he is a remarkable jazz musician. Together with Swedish bassist Mattias Svensson and Danish Morten Lund behind the drums, Nils Landgren and Jan Lundgren will create a four-day storytelling, and a universe that we look forward to being drawn into.

Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2018.

Over fire aftenener vil den svenske jazzpianist og kunstneriske chef for Montmartre, Jan Lundgren, tryllebinde os sammen med hans medsammensvorne Nils Landgren, Mattias Svensson og Morten Lund.
