Monten: Josef Leimberg

Josef Leimberg (Trumpet / US)Matthew 'Honeybee' Little (Keys / US)Tracy Wannomae (Bass Clarinet/Flute/Sax / US)William Logan (Drums / US)Anand Bennett (Guitar / US)

LA-based trumpeter and composer Josef Leimberg already had an impressive résumé before he was introduced to the broader audience in 2015, through Kendrick Lamar's platinum-certified, and Grammy-winning to Pimp a Butterfly. His induction in the music industry came in the early '90s, as a member of the rap-group Mad Kap but he is better known as a producer and for his collaboration with Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, Chance the Rapper, SZA and, oh yeah, K-Dot. By 2016 he gathered his fellow Pimp players Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington and Bilal, along with Jimetta Rose, Georgia Anne Muldrow and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and recorded his very first own album. We here at Monten cannot wait to hear his fusion of cosmic jazz, soul and hip-hop up-close and live. This will be one for the books!

Kenny Barron Solo

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Kenny Barron (Piano / US)

Kenny Barron is one of the world's absolute best jazz pianists. We know him from his historic recordings with Stan Getz from the Nørregade edition of Montmartre and for his splendid trio recordings under his own name. He is one of a very few number of living jazz artists, whose original compositions are recognized as jazz standards today. Do not miss out on American jazz at its finest.

Ben Besiakov Quartet Feat. Jesse Davis

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jesse Davis (Alto Sax / US)Ben Besiakov (Piano / DK)Alvin Queen (Drums / US)Ida Hvid (Bass / DK)

Ben Besiakov is one of the finest pianists in the Nordics. His soulful playing is captivating. He plays with the two Americans Jesse Davis and Alvin Queen. Both belong to the most vital front of the mature and inspiring jazz. Queen is sought for both for its dynamics and responsiveness throughout Europe and has played with the biggest names and was among also NHØP's preferred drummer. Davis, from the modern New Orleans, is considered as the heir to Cannonball Adderley’s sound with his reflective ballad games and sharp bop. He is now expanding his American career to Europe. Ida Hvid, the Danish bassist, collects the threads and is now also breaking through the invisible boundaries in European music. A very strong classic quartet that will offer nothing less than the most delightful jazz.

One of the defining figures in European jazz, Miroslav Vitous, left his native Czechoslovakia to make a profound impact on the New York scene in the 60s, making jazz history as a founding member of the hugely influential Weather Report and in a seminal acoustic trio with Chick Corea and Roy Haynes. He will enter Montmartre's stage for one night together with the award winning pianist and composer Emil Vicklický. Vutuos' sumptuous bass lines shall merge with Vicklický's robust combination of swing and lyrics - "combine elements of Bud Powell and Oscar Peterson with a deep infusion of Moravian soul, and you have Emil Vicklický, the patriarch of Czech jazz piano" - Jack Massarik, Evening Standard.

Jack Massarik fra Evening Standard skriver således om Emil Vicklický: "combine elements of Bud Powell and Oscar Peterson with a deep infusion of Moravian soul, and you have Emil Vicklický, the patriarch of Czech jazz piano"

Upcoming: Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh Trio

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.

This evening guitarist and composer Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh, who recently released his debut album ‘Distill’, presents a trio consisting of himself and two of his closest musical collaborators. Acclaimed bass player AC and the young drummer Laurits Hyllested.
