Lundgren/Wakenius/Svensson/Riel

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jan Lundgren (Piano / SE)Ulf Wakenius (Guitar / SE)Mattias Svensson (Bass / SE)Alex Riel (Drums / DK)

The Swedish jazz pianist and artistic leader of Jazzhus Montmartre plays with a poetic sensitivity that goes straight to the listener’s heart. He lifts the legacy of Sweden's great pianist, Jan Johansson like no other. He will set the mood on the stage together with Mattias Svensson, who has previously been part of Jan Lundgren Trio. Another Swede in the line-up is one of the world’s best guitarists in the shape of Ulf Wakenius. During his prestigious career, Ulf Wakenius has been the first-choice guitarist of Oscar Peterson, NHØP and many others, and he always manages to capture his audience whether he plays upbeat or a ballad. Last but not least we can look forward to hearing Alex Riel. For over 60 years has Alex Riel enriched the jazz audience in particular, being one of the most important drummers in Europe. The Danish musician has played with jazz legends such as Bill Evans, Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster.

Teitur: I Want To Be Kind Tour

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Teitur (Vocal/Piano / FO)

Since the release of the album Story Music in 2013, Teitur has certainly not been unproductive. Amongst other things, he has written and recorded classical music with the wonder child Nico Muhly, been talking to Ted Talks in Vancouver and toured in South America.

Now the productive musician has completed the recordings for his 9th studio album, titled 'I Want to Be Kind'. The album was recorded in collaboration with producer Thomas Bartlett (Sufjan Stevens, The National, Glen Hansard, Martha Wainwright, etc.). It's an album about finding peace, home, happiness and enjoying the little things in life. The release date is still secret, but the songs can be heard for the first time at these first two concerts of the "I Want to Be Kind"-tour.

I Want to Be Kind"-tour.

UPCOMING: Pernille Mejer: IRIS – Release Concert

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Pernille Mejer (Vocals/Arranger / DK)Anna Roemer (Guitar / DK)Calle Brickman (Piano / SE)Matthias Petri (Bass / DK)Andreas Svendsen (Drums / DK)

Pernille Mejer has a broad approach to her instrument, the voice, be it interpretation of lyrics, wordless improvisation, or arrangements with the voice as an integrated part of the sound. She has toured Denmark, Sweden, Germany, France, the USA and Canada as well as cooperated with the Danish Radio Big Band as vocalist in the ensemble, Touché – Jazz a Cappella. IRIS is her second solo album.

IRIS is a tribute to the mesmerizing tone of Wayne Shorter and his composition by the very same name. Furthermore, it is the unique colours and patterns of the human eye. The group has a modern rich sound, now and then, varied with more transparent duo constellations. The music moves between tradition and innovation, complexity and spontaneity. The repertoire consists of less-known standards from the 60’s to which lyrics in Danish have been written as well as interpretations of Danish songs which, by the tools of jazz, investigate and rediscover the essence of the songs.

Tickets only available at the door. Tickets is DKK 100 each and only DKK 50 for students/under 26.

(Art by: Rasmus Højfeldt)

Billetter købes kun i døren. Normalpris 100 kr. og 50 kr. for studerende/unge under 26.

Benjamin Koppel New Nordic (Cancelled)

Benjamin Koppel (Alto sax / DK)Eythor Gunnarsson (Piano / IS)Jesper Bodilsen (Bass / DK)Morten Lund (Drums / DK)

What happens when four of the best Nordic jazz musicians interpret classics by The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Michel Legrand and Cat Stevens? Danish saxophonist Benjamin Koppel and the excellent rhythm section take these well-known songs into their own musical space. The beautiful evergreens come to new life alongside more equally breathtaking melodies composed by Benjamin Koppel.

The New Nordic Quartet is a long time dream come true. A group of the four best, most versatile and creative voices on the Nordic jazz scene, gathered together to bring life to a series of compositions, taking the uniquely Nordic way of language and poetry as inspiration.

This concert is presented in collaboration with Cowbell.

Monten: Late Nights

Jonas Visti (DJ / DK)Dust Masta Hiss (DJ / DK)

Once again Montmartre will replace instruments and musicians with vinyls and DJs, when the intimate and historical music hall is transformed to a lounge bar.

This time, none other than the two vinyl wizards Jonas Visti and Dust Master Hiss will enchant us with the most delicious sound from the world of jazz, hip hop and other related genres.

Jonas Visti is a radio host on P8 Jazz. In addition to the city's best voices, he has a penchant for Brazilian music, jazz with the finesse of the late 60’s and DJ sets of soul and poetry.

Dust Masta Hiss (Tobias Clemen) does not come from a traditional jazz background. He has found his vinyl through hip hop – which have given him a melodic focus on slamming drums and heavy basses that shine through his carefully selected sets.

Both are members of the DJ collective Super Bad Disco and have played at a sea of parties and concerts the city over.

The doors open at 11PM, admission is free and there’s offers at the bar, which is open until 2AM.

I Think You’re Awesome is an overall fresh breath of air to the Danish jazz scene and the band members consists of some of the most momentous young voices in the Danish music scene, led by their conductor Jens Mikkel Madsen. Come hear what all the fuzz is about and prepare to be spellbound by the Awesome band and their fervent music and energy.

Linda May Han Oh (Bass/Electric Bass / US)Greg Ward (Alto Sax / US)Matthew Stevens (Guitar / US)Arthur Hnatek (Drums / US)

33-year-old Linda May Han Oh was born in Malaysia, raised in Perth and now resides in New York. Besides being somewhat of a cosmopolitan, she is also a brilliant composer and a technically gifted bass player, who has enchanted jazz aficionados for numerous years. As a composer, she is capable of depicting instrumental fairy tales, about love-struck men with speech impediments, the maternal instinct, and also her own mother's Malaysian cooking, with great virtuosity. That may all seem a bit chaotic on paper, but Linda May Han Oh pares her frolicsome compositions with her technical ingenuity, and the end result is poetic improvisations steeped in quality.

33-årige Linda May Han Oh er født i Malaysia, opvokset i Perth og bosat i New York.

Once again, we have the utmost pleasure of presenting Kathrine Windfeld Big Band, which consist of composer and forewoman Kathrine Windfeld as well as thirteen other prodigious musicians, hand-picked from Denmark, Sweden, and Poland. Kathrine Windfeld Big Band is a band capable of elevating the almost 100-year-old big band format into the modern age, and skeptics of the format will undoubtedly be blown away. Since the Windfeld Big Band last visit to Montmartre, they?ve been selected to play two showcases at JazzDanmark Sounds of Denmark, which will be kicked off in September in London. The autumn of 2018 for Kathrine Windfeld will also offer a cooperation with the Frankfurt Radio Big Band, but before London and Frankfurt are calling, Windfeld and ensemble have promised to swing by Store Regnegade on both the 30th and 31th of March. You don't want to miss this!
