LIVESTREAM SUPPORT CONCERT

Four of Denmark's greatest jazz vocalists meet with a top trio for a support concert, where donations will support Montmartre's survival until we can reopen after the summer.

1st of July from 9PM we’ll livestream an hour of vocal jazz from Jazzhus Montmartre's stage. We have the honor of presenting a star line-up consisting of Cæcilie Norby, Sinne Eeg, Søren Sko and Bobo Moreno. Each one will sing selected songs accompanied by a top-class trio consisting of Jacob Christoffersen, Thomas Fonnesbæk and Morten Lund. Get ready and turn up the sound as these outstanding musicians brings jazz to your living room!

When the shutdown hit Denmark, Montmartre and the rest of the jazz community’s possibilities to do what we love and exist for vanished. We miss doing concerts for all our dear guests and fans! In May, Montmartre should have celebrated the 10th anniversary of the reopening in 2010. Instead we are inviting you all to a livestream concert from the non-profit venue in inner Copenhagen. A concert that we hope you will enjoy and support. Enjoy because you will experience some of the country's best musicians. And support because we hope you will contribute to securing Montmartre financially, until we can finally reopen again after the summer.

A special theme for Montmartre has been composed for this evening by our Artistic Director, Jan Lundgren, who will perform it for you in the beginning of the show.

See you on Facebook and Youtube for jazz on 1/6 at 21:00!

Carsten Dahl Trinity ft. Fredrik Lundin

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Carsten Dahl (Piano / Rhodes / DK)Niels Bosse Davidsen (Bass / DK)Stefan Pasborg (Drums / DK)Frederik Lundin (Tenorsax / DK)

The pianist Carsten Dahl continues to surprise. Just as one thought that he was categorized as an exclusive solo pianist, he comes out as leader of a row of tough and raw constellations and now in this trio, which possibly tops in strength and coarseness. Dahl brings one of the country’s most attentive bassists Nils Bo Davidsen and the ultra-dynamic drummer Stefan Pasborg. And the music? Aggressive, flexible, playful, right on the spot and of course tough and raw. It’s trio music that doesn’t exist elsewhere, which constantly develops and digs out new musical expressions, which no one else has been in the proximity of. In other words: Music going forward with solid roots in and great respect for the already existing. For these concerts, the trio gets a distinguished visit from Fredrik Lundin, who possesses a lyrical and intuitive understanding that allows him to fluently speak in the musical language of this trio.

Sinne Eeg (Vocal / DK)Jacob Christoffersen (Piano / DK)Lennart Ginman (Bass / DK)Zoltan Csorsz (Drums / SE)

Sinne Eeg is considered to be one of the jazz queens of Denmark. She has won many awards including the prestigious Ben Webster Award in 2014 and is a two-time Danish Music Award winner for "Best Vocal Jazz Album", which she won in 2007 and 2010. In spite of having performed and traveled all over the world, Sinne Eeg keeps the Scandinavian melancholy settled in her music. Her sound is modern and Nordic with clear references to legendary jazz singers such as Nancy Wilson and Benny Carter. Her concerts are known for being filled with humor, a charming presence and musical bonanza, which comes to show by playfully taking chances on stage. This evening she is performing together with three great Danish musicians: pianist Jacob Christoffersen, bass player Lennart Ginman and drummer Zoltan Csörsz.

Pierre Dørge & New Jungle Orchestra: 40 Year Anniversary

One of Denmark’s absolute greatest national orchestras in jazz is called New Jungle Orchestra. With 40 years on the jazz scene NJO continues to be intractable, charming, unpredictable and always an entertaining experience. NJO has through their traveling all over the world established their sound and a musical expression that collects inspiration from music from Greenland to Sibiria, India, Bali, USA, Africa, The Middle East and Charlottenlund – all these sources of inspiration are mixed, intertwined and interpreted so there is something for every listener. Incarnated jazz haters have been converted to unconditional jazz lovers after spending two sets with NJO, and even those who have heard NJO multiple times still have a sensational experience every time Pierre Dørge and his troop of well-trained improvisers take the stage. This night we can expect a sublime mixture of newly composed music and old NJO-hits in new versions. You’ll never leave a New Jungle Orchestra concert unaffected!

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Majid Bekkas (Guimbre)Goran Kafješ (Trumpet / SE)Jesper Nordenström (Piano / Rhodes / SE)Stefan Pasborg (Drums / DK)

Three Scandinavians and a Maroccan get together in this incomparable quartet. Here, the hundred-year-old Maroccan Gnawa music is mixed with contemporary inspiration which leads to a remarkable musical combination. The spiritual and almost trance-like Gnawa is the starting point for the collective improvisations. The terrific musician Majid Bekkas is the main soloist on the traditional instrument guembri which is similar to a banjo or a bass guitar, but with its entirely own beautiful sound. His ensemble playing with the three exceptional Scandinavian musicians has by many occasions resulted in many enthusiastic reviews. Magic Spirit Quartet is an extremely original example of world music that will continue to stick with you.

Anna-Lena Brundin has a long singing career and five studio albums under her belt, and singer/songwriter and jazz singer Jan Sigurd has toured with and written music to Monica Zetterlund’s last two albums among others. They are being joined on stage by a recognized team of musicians who have played with stars such as Michael Brecker, Dizzy Gillespie, Van Morrison and even the protagonist of this night back in 1985. Tonight’s special guest is the French harmonica player Sébastian Charlier – a world class musician who draws inspiration from Alan Holdsworth and has furthermore developed his own school within the diatonic harmonica. Here’s something in the physical section of jazz. The flutist Herbie Mann’s legendary LP-release from 1969 “Memphis Underground” is recreated in a 2020-production by the excelling Swedish saxophonist and flutist Magnus Lindgren and his funky group. Lindgren has a great reputation in his home country and is gradually – and very well-deserved – making a name for himself internationally through releases at the record company ACT. Here, Lindgren focuses on the flute, so fans of Herbie Mann are in for a treat. Drum pads are not allowed – this is old school, hand played funk, that tunes straight into your body. The jazz magazine Galore wrote this about “Stockholm Underground”: “An easily grooving album, which transports the Memphis sound to the Stockholm archipelago.”

Fantasilaboratoriet

Niels Munk Petersen (Trumpet / DK)Dan Hjorth Jensen (Piano / DK)Jens Mikkel Madsen (Bass / DK)Jonathan Jull Ludvigsen (Drums / DK)

Fantasilaboratoriet is motivated by the spiritual value in the arts and is a musical project that is experimenting with and testing boundaries. Band leader Niels Munk Petersen explores new musical landscapes through storytelling based on a tradition-bound melodical language, and the project of Fantasilaboratoriet places itself both in the center and in the periphery of the jazz genre. Whereas the jazz is used as a foundation for improvisation, the members of the ensemble find inspiration in modern musical environments and endeavor themselves to never repeat the musical past. Niels Munk Petersen’s Nordic tone is complemented by a harmonious interplay with his long-term musical partner; pianist Dan Hjorth Jensen. The drummer Jonathan Jull Ludvigsen has played with the hiphop/jazz-band Athletic Progression among others and adds a unique layer of heavy rhythmical complexities to the melodic universes. The bassist Jens Mikkel Madsen is known as part of the group I Think You’re Awesome and injects his usual joy and warmth to the music. Fantasilaboratoriet is a thoughtful and equilibristic, tradition-bound ensemble that also wishes to test the boundaries of the music. This ensemble addresses the curious audience.

Anders Bergcrantz: Album Release Concert

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Anders Bergcrantz (Trumpet / SE)Tomas Franck (Tenor sax / DK)Chico Lindvall (Guitar / SE)Sven-Erik Lundekvist (Piano / SE)Lars Lundström (Bass / SE)Niclas Campagnol (Drums / SE)

This day Swedish trumpetist Anders Bergcrantz releases his newest album “ELEVATE”. And if there’s a musician who lifts up the music, it’s Bergcrantz. He has been awarded with the distinguished award as “Best Jazz Trumpet Player in the World” two times by the acknowledged jazz blog “Jazz Station” by Arnaldo De’Souteiro, and his extremely potent and aggressive play has since the 80’s been a constant source of satisfaction for jazz lovers. He has performed all over the world with his own groups and played with the iconic Page One among others and also many of our young, leading jazz musicians. Stylistically, we are back in the 70’s and 80’s when Freddie Hubbard and Woody Shaw set the agenda – while Bergcrantz adds inspirations from all that music which has influenced jazz since. This evening, Anders Bergcrantz brings some of the sister country’s absolute best musicians. Look forward to experiencing physical and acoustic jazz that blows you away, while the soul gets a nice round of rhythmical massage.

Frederik Moth (Saxophone / DK)David Besiakov (Drums / DK)Lars Fiil (Piano / DK)Mads Nørgaard (Guitar / DK)Jasper Jagd (Bass / DK)

The members of this group are young and active in the Danish jazz community, with strong musical personalities, all of whom are band leaders on their own projects. The compositions are written by Fredrik Moth, but the music is created jointly with room for the individual's voice. The quintet released their first record in 2015 which was very well received by the press: ”(…) All formulated through the really well-written songs that the five musicians relate to. This is not a jam, not at all, it is inspired collaboration where musical wholeness is the goal. It's 8-0 at the break. The tunes catch on. And it swings”. - Henrik Woldsgaard, Jazzspecial. "It Could be Nina" appears solid, well balanced and well thought out, and "The Nameless" is a fine chiseled highlight with the saxophone in a distinguished front position. "- Ivan Rod (Gaffa). Now the group is out with their second album: "Take The B - Train" which we have the pleasure of listening to this evening!

Melodierne fanger. Og det swinger”. - Henrik Woldsgaard, Jazzspecial. ”It Could be Nina” fremstår helstøbt, velafbalanceret og gennemtænkt, og ”Den navnløse” er et fint ciseleret højdepunkt med saxofonen i en fornem frontposition.” – Ivan Rod (Gaffa). Nu er gruppen aktuel med deres andet album: "Take The B - Train", som vi denne aften får fornøjelsen af at lytte til!
