FOLK: Nini Julia Bang (releasekoncert)

Nini Julia Bang (sang / DK)

The word unique is used a lot in blurbs like these, but it doesn’t get more justified, than in the case of Nini Julia Bang. As a sort of prism of song she has mastered the full spectrum of the voice, as well as song-traditions from all around the world in a beautiful and authentic way. When the concert is over you will most likely feel like having returned from an enlightening trip around the globe. This also happens to be her danish release concert.

Dejan Terzic: Axiom ft. Bojan Z, Chris Speed & Matt Penman

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Dejan Terzic (Drums / DE)Bojan Z. (Piano / FR)Chris Speed (Tenor Sax / US)Matt Penman (Bass / US)

Award-winning drummer Dejan Terzic has toured and recorded countless albums for the past 20 years and collaborated with well-known names like Lee Konitz, Enrico Rava, Wolfgang Muthspiel and Paolo Fresu. Dejan became a mainstay on the European jazz scene long ago. Recently he decided to focus on his own projects and gathered this quartet. They released their debut album Axiom at the famous Italian label CAM Jazz. The new Quartet performs original music - interprets and improvises using minimalist approaches, melancholic colors and musical interweaving’s of multilayered structures. The interplay of the four individuals is breathtaking!

Kristin Korb: That Time of Year feat. Mathias Heise

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Kristin Korb (Vocal/Bass / US)Mathias Heise (Harmonica / DK)Calle Brickman (Piano / SE)Snorre Kirk (Drums / NO)

In 2017, Kristin Korb and her merry band of elves (Calle Brickman, Snorre Kirk, and Mathias Heise) presented a series of Christmas concerts. The band and the audiences had so much fun, that Kristin decided to further develop the program. Known for her exuberant spirit and contagious optimism, it is only fitting that bassist and vocalist recorded a Christmas project to celebrate her 10th album and first with Storyville Records. “That Time of Year” is the result of that festive collaboration. “I wanted to assemble a program that creates a feeling of “hygge” and joy without being overly sweet or boring. I carefully selected songs from my childhood, songs reflecting long-standing friendships, and songs that are just fun and wintery. This is a soundtrack for tree trimming, lighting candles, and hanging out with those you love.” – Kristin Korb. Join Kristin and the guys for a celebration of childhood glee, holiday classics, and the quiet hygge of sitting by the fire with the ones you love.

”That Time of Year” er resultatet af det festlige samarbejde.

David Helbock's Random/Control: Tour d’ Horizon

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
David Helbock (Piano, Electronics, Perc / AT)Johannes Bär (Trumpet, Sousaphone, Tuba, Beatbox, Didgeridoo, Electronics, Percussion / AT)Andreas Broger (Sax, Clarinet, Flute, Percussion / AT)

More than 20 instruments on stage, but just three musicians: David Helbock, Outstanding Artist Award Winner in Austria, mainly plays on instruments with keys. Johannes Bär does all the brass, from trumpet to bass flugelhorn and tuba and Andreas Broger plays wind-instruments like saxophones, clarinets and flutes. For their new program, which was released as a CD on the renowned label ACT Music, David Helbock got inspired by his favorite jazz piano players and arranged their most famous tunes for this special line-up. New, exciting versions of Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock or Bolivia by Cedar Walton emerged - but also soft, atmospheric pieces like Keith Jarrett´s My Song shine like new. Over the years Random/Control has developed a distinct band sound, always a ride on the rollercoaster for the ear and the eye. Or like Roland Spiegel from the Bavarian Radio wrote already years ago: "The listener experiences something new when David Helbock plays. And it ́s never top-heavy music – it ́s music that thrills the body and the mind.”

The listener experiences something new when David Helbock plays. And it ́s never top-heavy music – it ́s music that thrills the body and the mind.”

Bobo Moreno (Vocal / DK)Bo Stief (Bass / DK)Ole Kock Hansen (Piano / DK)

Following our tradition this trio of international class delivers the festive concerts between Christmas and New Year. Bobo Moreno, Ole Kock Hansen and Bo Stief are all virtuoso artists who have established themselves strongly in the Danish music life with many successful concerts - including many sold out houses in Montmartre. Bobo Moreno's legendary vocal is in this trio given the focus his great talent deserves. The repertoire is carefully selected and consists of a wide selection from several different genres. The songs are interpreted in personal editions with the three musicians own original fingerprints. Together, the three musicians have created an open, entertaining and unpretentious style that provides space for delightful, uplifting and virtuoso music for all.

Peter Marott (Trumpet / DK)Tobias Trier (Guitar / DK)Torben Westergaard (Bass / DK)Carl Quist-Møller (Drums / DK)

Muhaha!

Monten: 1 Year Celebration / I Am An Instrument

1. set:

Morten McCoy (Piano / DK)Jonathan Bremer (Bass / DK)CHLLNGR (Keys/Guitar/Sax/Electronics / DK)Johannes Wamberg (Guitar / DK)Stunn Gunn (Drums / DK)Eliel Lazo (Percussion / CU)

2. set:

Jonas Visti (DJ / DK)Jesper Lemke (DJ / DK)Dee Brown (DJ / DK)

It’s the 1 year anniversary of our dear concept Monten. And it calls for a celebration and once again we will transform the old jazz club to a whirl of beers, vinyls and cozy-dimmed lights, spiced with, maybe, the greatest atmosphere!

For a year, we have explored the borderlands of jazz and presented some quite excellent concerts. We celebrate with a concert of the group I Am An Instrument, which actually emerged at Monten. Subsequently, the three vinyl gurus Jonas Visti, Jesper Lemke and Daniel Dee will take over the record players and spread some lovely noise at the after party, which continues to 2:30 AM.

I AM AN INSTRUMENT: Less than a year ago this group of musicians met at Monten and performed together for the very first time. Morten McCoy, Jonathan Bremer, Stunn Gunn, CHLLNGR, Eliel Lazo and Johannes Wamberg each represent their own genre, which themes they improvised their way through on what became a magical night and the audience was with them every step of the way. It is time for them to meet for the second time at Montmartre, in a unique constellation with a shared playfulness across musical traditions.

Ticket for the concert: DKK 170. Afterparty: Free entrance

Jan Lundgren with strings: Tribute to Jan Johansson

Jan Lundgren (Piano / SE)Mattias Svensson (Bass / SE)Joanna Lewis (Violin / AU)Emily Stewart (Violin / UK)Aurore Cany (Viola / FR)Asja Valcic (Cello)Ronnie Gardiner (Drums / US)

WINTERJAZZ

The Swedish jazz pianist and artistic director of Montmartre has an ability to play with an outstanding poetic sensibility which is exceptionally moving to listen to. He carries on the legacy of the amazing pianist Jan Johansson with great diligence and curiosity. The tribute concerts are primarily based on the albums “Jazz på Svenska”, “Jazz på Ryska” and Jazz på Ungerska”. Lundgren puts his personal mark on the music while keeping Johanssons harmonies intact. The string quartet and Mattias Svensson, who has also been a part of Jan Lundgren Trio, adds something unique as well. Also, a special guest will join for these three concerts: the legendary drummer Ronnie Gardiner who lived in Copenhagen and played at Montmartre in 1962-63. He played with Dexter Gordon, Albert Ayler, Don Byas, Kenny Drew, Roland Kirk, Atli Bjørn and many others.

VINTERJAZZ

Vincent Herring & the Soul Chemistry feat. Mike Le Donne

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Vincent Herring (Alto Sax / US)Mike Le Donne (Piano / US)Essiet Essiet (Bass / US)Joris Dudli (Drums / CH)

WINTERJAZZ

American alto saxophone player Vincent Herring proudly carries the torch that was lit in the 1950s and was focusing on acoustic jazz with a strong and physical approach – just like today. Herring was an apprentice with greats like Cedar Walton, Art Blakey, Horace Silver and others, and obtained here the energy and knowledge of the music that helped him put together and lead own groups with more than fifteen releases in his own name. Vincent Herring is an expressive and versatile musician, carries a big and beautiful tone and whose playing is still developing and who has a big knowledge and great respect for the history of the music.

VINTERJAZZ

1. set:

Søren Nørbo (Piano / DK)Nils Bo Davidsen (Bass/Cello / DK)

2. set:

Mark Solborg (Guitar / DK)Francesco Bigoni (Saxophone/Electronics / IT)Thomas Lehn (Analogue synthesizer / DE)

The pianist Søren Nørbo and the bassist and cellist Nils Bo Davidsen’s collaboration spans several decades and with a handful of common CD albums. Between each meeting, their individual persistent work with all-time music and exploration of music in other contexts leads them on new paths, and most recently, it has been Nils' cello, which has given the duo’s sound a new direction. Improvisation is the headline, both in the interpretation of Søren Nørbo's new compositions and in relation to the unpredictable musical journeys the duo invites the audience to join.

The master of analogue synth, Thomas Lehn, has since the early 1990s performed and produced live electronic music. He has formed an individual language of electronic music, which is rooted in his experience with a wide spectrum of musical fields based on his background as an interpreting and improvising pianist in classical-, contemporary and jazz music. Francesco Bigoni has been active on the Italian scene since his early twenties, before relocating to Copenhagen in 2009. He pursues sound from all sides: he holds a degree in electrical engineering and is active in the field of electroacoustics and interaction design. Mark Solborg has made an impression with 19 international releases. He has collaborated with artists like Evan Parker, Paul Lovens, Herb Robertson a.o. He continues to work with intriguing musical universes, both live and in the studio.

ECM 50 Years: Craig Taborn

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Craig Taborn (Piano)

WINTERJAZZ

American pianist Craig Taborn belongs to the absolute elite within NU-jazz in the US. NU-jazz being jazz inspired by everything that is not jazz! Especially European classical music and the vigorous pianistic excesses from the 20th century is high on the list of inspirations, and Craig Taborn is one of the leading in that genre. His eminent control of the endless possibilities of the piano and an unending fantasy, combined with a gorgeous swing, makes him one of the today’s most interesting pianists. His music demands 100% attention and challenges the listener in its almost deliberate held back energy! Uncompromised music with a strong and almost political statement.

VINTERJAZZ

John Scofield Solo

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
John Scofield (Guitar / US)

WINTERJAZZ

One of the greatest innovators of modern jazz guitar and a three-time Grammy award-winning artist, John Scofield, is returning to Montmartre. This time solo!

We’ll let Scofield present the idea behind his solo concerts: “My main focus in guitar playing has always centered around being part of a group; exploring the music that happens when musicians listen to each other and improvise together. Quite frankly, until now, I’ve avoided playing solo concerts and have done only one solo performance in public since I was a child. I hadn't considered solo guitar as the perfect platform for improvising. Now, after playing guitar for 56 years, I’m finally interested in going it alone and exploring the possibilities. It's taken me decades to realize that I’ve been playing unaccompanied guitar at home or in hotel rooms every day since 1962! I’ve put a lot of thought in lately to how I can present an evening of solo guitar that represents my passions and sensibilities. My idea is to keep it song based, playing jazz, country and rock tunes that I love as well as some of my original compositions. I've been preparing for nearly a year, working my brain in new directions while looking forward to these shows with excitement and a small bit of trepidation. I hope you enjoy being on this journey with me.”

VINTERJAZZ

Thomas Fonnesbæk/Justin Kauflin/Billy Williams

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.

WINTERJAZZ

CD-release Synesthesia in 2017 by US-pianist Justin Kauflin and Danish bass player Thomas Fonnesbæk established this duo as one of the finest of today. Not only are both musicians virtuosos on their respective instruments; they are also capable of painting the finest and most beautiful sound paintings in the minds of the listener when playing in duo. Live, they go a bit further out than on the recording. Kauflin and Fonnesbæk challenge and play with the music and each other like two elegant cats, but always manage to land on their feet again. Repertoire is standards as well as originals, in own and often surprising arrangements; charming, compassionate and played with a wonderful lightness.

VINTERJAZZ
