The drummer Rodney Green is a dear and cherished guest at Jazzhus Montmartre’s drum set. He started his musical career as a big teenager and has traveled the world with stars such as Christian McBride, Joe Henderson, Diana Krall and George Benson. He has been the man by the drums at both young Danish and older international jazz musician’s concerts at Montmartre. Every time he has impressed with his cool groove, his loyal rhythmical support to co-musicians and not the least his sumptuous eagerness to play. This time Green brings his own group. He has written most of the music himself that indeed radiates vitality, happiness and again this cool groove that makes Rodney Green worth hearing again and again.

Furthermore, on this evening bassist Bo Stief presents a new constellation "New Dreams" with top guitarist Poul Halberg and singer and cellist Lea Havelund. It is not enough to have a beautiful tone. You also need to know what to do with it! Trumpet player Eddie Henderson possesses both qualities. Henderson first came forward in the middle of the 1970’s as a permanent member of Herbie Hancock’s ensembles. He marked himself as an essential part of Hancock’s innovative jazz fusion and from there he continued as a leader of his own groups within the fields of latin jazz, jazz fusion and smooth jazz. Eddie Henderson’s current group has “returned” to the authentic, acoustic jazz; an expression that Henderson masters to perfection and where he is eminently supported by his trio. Look forward to timeless, storytelling music where Eddie Henderson’s exceptionally beautiful tone is an attraction itself.

Carsten Dahl (Piano / Rhodes / DK)Niels Bosse Davidsen (19/3) (Bass / DK)Ole Morten Vågan (20-21/3) (Bass / DK)Stefan Pasborg (Drums / DK)

The pianist Carsten Dahl continues to surprise. Just as one thought that he was categorized as an exclusive solo pianist, he comes out as leader of a row of tough and raw constellations and now in this trio, which possibly tops in strength and coarseness. Dahl brings one of the country’s most attentive bassists Nils Bo Davidsen and the ultra-dynamic drummer Stefan Pasborg. And the music? Aggressive, flexible, playful, right on the spot and of course tough and raw. It’s trio music that doesn’t exist elsewhere, which constantly develops and digs out new musical expressions, which no one else has been in the proximity of. In other words: Music going forward with solid roots in and great respect for the already existing.

It is rare for a young Danish female drummer to receive an international award. But it actually happened to Michala Østergaard, who in 2018 received the "Jazzkannan", one of Sweden's most prestigious awards given to musicians who bring the music further. This evening, Michala Østergaard is with her regular, international group with some of the most equilibristic improvisation musicians from Scandinavia and France - and this time extended with a fifth member - bassist Anders Jormin. It is a meeting between four countries and five musicians, each with their very own strong personality in a special open music that challenges, tickles and scratches, all at once. Magical storytelling, where images arise, emotions are born and people meet.

In Denmark, there are very few male jazz singers. And even fewer that exclusively sing in Danish. Søren Lampe is one of them. He has made it his agenda to “jazzify” Danish folk songs as well as more contemporary classics, which he does very convincingly and personally. Here, the listener gets the opportunity to hear the quality in songs from the song books of Danish folk songs and evergreens from the 20th century. With these extraordinary musicians with him on stage, Lampe will demonstrate the great art of jazz singing.

Fredrik Moth Five

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Frederik Moth (Saxophone / DK)David Besiakov (Drums / DK)Lars Fiil (Piano / DK)Mads Nørgaard (Guitar / DK)Jasper Jagd (Bass / DK)

The members of this group are young and active in the Danish jazz community, with strong musical personalities, all of whom are band leaders on their own projects. The compositions are written by Fredrik Moth, but the music is created jointly with room for the individual's voice. The quintet released their first record in 2015 which was very well received by the press: ”(…) All formulated through the really well-written songs that the five musicians relate to. This is not a jam, not at all, it is inspired collaboration where musical wholeness is the goal. It's 8-0 at the break. The tunes catch on. And it swings”. - Henrik Woldsgaard, Jazzspecial. "It Could be Nina" appears solid, well balanced and well thought out, and "The Nameless" is a fine chiseled highlight with the saxophone in a distinguished front position. "- Ivan Rod (Gaffa). Now the group is out with their second album: "Take The B - Train" which we have the pleasure of listening to this evening!

Melodierne fanger. Og det swinger”. - Henrik Woldsgaard, Jazzspecial. ”It Could be Nina” fremstår helstøbt, velafbalanceret og gennemtænkt, og ”Den navnløse” er et fint ciseleret højdepunkt med saxofonen i en fornem frontposition.” – Ivan Rod (Gaffa).

Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh: Whereabouts

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh (Guitar / DK)Adi Zukanovic (Keys / DK)Anders "AC" Christensen (Bass / DK)Victor Dybbroe (Perc/Drums / DK)

Guitarist and composer Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh present his latest project Whereabouts. The project has developed over the past few years and culminates with the album “Whereabouts” expected to be released in the autumn of 2020. “Whereabouts” will be the second release from Oppenhagen Krogh following his acclaimed debut album Distill from 2017. While the upcoming album features a group of seven musicians, this concert will showcase the music in a smaller group with room to explore new facets of the material.

Whereabouts explores the intersection between written material and improvisation, simplicity and complexity, the relation between time and space and the sonic qualities of the musicians as a unity. The group consists of some of the leading musicians from the Danish music scene today, who have all worked across different genres and expressions and are known for their work with internationally recognised bands/artists such as Girls In Airports, Jakob Bro, IRAH among others.
