Aaron Parks & Little Big

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Aaron Parks (Piano / US)Greg Tuohey (Guitar / NZ)DJ Ginyard (Bass / US)Tommy Crane (Drums / US)

Danish Jazz Federation invited American pianist Aaron Parks to Denmark for one month in 2013, to inspire, perform with and generally join the Danish jazz scene. During his stay, he made many new friends among musicians and – especially among the attentive jazz audience. Parks has returned many times and is a treasured guest on the piano benches all over our country. His highly emotional and attentive playing may remind you of the great ones (Jarrett, Evans et al), but Aaron Parks is quite unique. He could be one of the great ones himself in the years to come. Please greet Aaron Parks with his steady US-group that delivers his musical ideas in the finest way.

Students/under 26 tickets: Half price off

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Pernille Bevort (Sax/Composition / DK)Mariane Bitran (Flutes / FR)Kasper Wagner (Alto Sax/Clarinet / DK)Ole Visby (Tenor Sax/Bass Clarinet / DK)Mads Kjølby (Guitar / DK)Fransesco Cali (Piano/Harmonica / IT)Morten Ankarfeldt (Bass / DK)Bjørn Heebøll (Drums / DK)

Saxophone player, composer and bandleader Pernille Bévort is and has always been a unique person on the Danish jazz scene. She does not follow the trends of today. She sets her own marks and stands proudly for her musical conviction. At this event, Bévort brings an impressing team of musicians that conveys her musical ideas. Bévort is inspired by music from everywhere, but we constantly sense a clear and distinct direction; beautiful sonic timbres, exciting rhythmic and melodic progress and – above all – excellent solos. Radio Bévort is challenging music that crawls under your skin and fills out your entire body. The Danish jazz magazine Jazz Special said this about Radio Bévort’s last CD release: “It has been a great while since I heard contemporary music that has caught me like this – physically as well as intellectually.”

Students/under 26 tickets: 147,5 DKK

Sophisticated Ladies feat. Christina Dahl

Christina Dahl (Tenor Sax / DK)Marie Schmidt (Piano / DK)Helle Marstrand (Bass / DK)Benita Haastrup (Drums/Perc / DK)

Jazz does not have to be difficult to be hip. This trio is the best proof of that. Meet three musicians, whose approach to music is honest, right there and whose joy in talking directly to you, can only bring you joy – no matter what music you hold high. The interplay, the spirit and the passion is obvious from first note to the last. The trio plays own tunes and standards with conviction and an energy that really pleases the listener. Sophisticated Ladies is jazz for those who do not yet know they like jazz – and off course for us who do.

Students/under 26 tickets: 140 DKK

When Malene Kjærgård takes the stage, she enriches her audience.

Tribute to NHØP

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Bo Stief (Bass / DK)Hans Ulrik (Tenor Sax / DK)Henrik Gunde (Piano / DK)Alex Riel (Drums / DK)

National Danish acoustic bass-icon Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen (NHØP) left our world way too soon in 2005. This evening four musicians show their deep respect and pay their homage to this great innovator. Bo Stief has been a close ear and eyewitness to NHØP's life, mainly because the two friends had large parts of their musical upbringing at Montmartre. Stief talks about his experiences with NHØP, and the music played will be related to these stories. Stief will be accompanied by three great Danish musicians; Hans Ulrik (sax), Henrik Gunde (piano) and the drummer, who has been touring endlessly with NHØP, Alex Riel.

The group enters NHØP’s musical universe and gives us their 2019-interpretations of his musical output. We will witness a glorious journey in music, where US-jazz walks hand in hand with traditional Danish songs. And through the entire concert, the spirit of NHØP and his enormous position in Danish jazz will be present.

Students/under 26 tickets: Half price off

Danmarks nationale jazz-ikon, bassisten Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen forlod alt for tidligt vores verden i 2005.

Jonas Johansen: Blanco y Negro

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jonas Johansen (Drums / DK)Karl-Martin Almqvist (Tenor Sax / SE)Abel Marcel (Piano / CU)Yasser Morejón Pino (Bass / CU)Eliel Lazo (Perc/Vocals / CU)

Cubans sees this band as a jazz group. Danes regards the music as Cuban music This is how different music can be conceived, especially when it’s combining multiple traditions. However, Danish drummer Jonas Johansen has gathered an impressive bunch of musicians, and together they have created exquisite and original music, that melts afro/Cuban, American and Scandinavian music into an impressive and complete musical expression. Enjoy pianist Abel Marcel’s to-the-edge solos, powerful and emotional conga playing from Eliel Lazo, intense and swinging bass playing from Yasser Morejón, juicy solos from Swedish tenor player Karl-Martin Almqvist, and last, but not least unifying drumming from bandleader Jonas Johansen.

Students/under 26 tickets: Half price off

Malene Mortensen Group: Songs by Kai Normann Andersen

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Malene Mortensen (Vocal / DK)Ole Kock Hansen (Piano / DK)Anders Fjeldsted (Bass / DK)Andreas Svendsen (Drums / DK)

Singer Malene Mortensen was the wonder kid, that throughout her career har tried herself out in the pop-field, writing her own songs, being soloist with big bands and fronting own groups. These two nights she will interpret songs written by one of DKs finest songwriters, Kai Normann Andersen way back in the middle of the 20th century. Yes, we are talking about “ancient” music, but a fine tune never dies! Look forward to hearing wonderful songs from a wonderful voice, accompanied by the greatest vocal-accompanist in DK, Ole Kock Hansen and a tight rhythm-section.

Photo: Eric Klitgaard

Students/under 26 tickets: Half price off

North / Upcoming at Montmartre

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Benjamin Nørholm Jacobsen (Piano / DK)Martin Brunbjerg Rasmussen (Bass / DK)Lasse Jacobsen (Drums / DK)

Drawing inspiration from modern minimalism and with the roots firmly planted in the Nordic jazz tradition, the trio takes the listener on a journey to a world of cinematic evocative compositions. The music is lyrical and melodic and exists in the borderlands between composition and improvisation. Between the simple and the complex. With profound interplay and a strongly image-creating character, the foundation is laid for a musical experience of the highest caliber.

For students/under 26, tickets: 50 DKK

John Marshall (Trumpet / US)Calle Brickman (Piano / SE)Ida Hvid (Bass / DK)Egor Kryukovskikh (Drums / RU)

Raw, aggressive, but also deeply felt and intense trumpet playing from a musician, who for years has embellished trumpet sections in various European big bands, but who now wants to defend his position as an important performer with focus on neo-bop and what followed. John Marshall’s beautiful sound and strong power in luring out all possible details of the musical finesses of the compositions, are an important reason for visiting Montmartre this (hopefully) warm night in June. Hearing the fine trio behind Marshall could be another reason. Whatever the choices, you will not leave without gaining a fine musical experience.

Students/under 26 tickets: Half price off

Silhouette: A Tribute to Lars Gullin

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Christina Von Bülow (Alto Sax / DK)Fredrik Lundin (Baryton Sax / DK)Jacob Fisher (Guitar / DK)Daniel Franck (Bass / SE)Jeppe Gram (Drums / DK)

Alto sax player Christina von Bülow and baritone sax player Fredrik Lundin are both fascinated by the late Swedish baritone sax player Lars Gullin's emotional and melancholic playing. The two of them decided to form a group, with Gullin's eternally present and beautiful music as the main part of the repertoire, supplemented with original compositions. This is a beautiful corner of Scandinavian jazz, this is where great emotions are presented, and no one leaves the concert without being touched by this music.

Students/under 26 tickets: 147,5 DKK

COPENHAGEN JAZZ FESTIVAL 2019

It is always a joy when a young musician decides to focus on passing on a strong jazz-tradition. Guitarist Jacob Artved lives in the tradition, but has definitely obtained inspirations from guitar players of today. His playing is skilled and honest, and he has a fine career ahead of him. These three days Artved is heard with no other than a legend; the American drummer Louis Hayes, whose strong playing was the driving force in groups led by Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver and Woody Shaw. What a scoop! The group is completed by two incredible musicians from NYC; pianist Jeb Patton and bassist David Wong.

COPENHAGEN JAZZ FESTIVAL 2019

Zier Romme Larsen (Piano / DK)Felix Moseholm (Bass / DK)Malthe Arndal (Drums / DK)Claus Waidtløw (Sax / DK)

Montmartre has a distinguished tradition of jam sessions. In the 50s and 60s the stars took the stage after the scheduled concerts and continued the party. The tradition is continued during Copenhagen Jazz Festival, where the stars gather in all kinds of constellations and create completely unique moments.

This year's Late Night Jam Sessions are curated by a young, Danish trio consisting of Zier Romme on piano, Felix Moseholm on bass and Malthe Arndal on drums. Despite their young age, all three have cemented their names on the Danish jazz scene. Every night they will be joined by a special guest on horn and fire up a party at the jam sessions during this year's Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

With special guest Claus Waidtløw (Sax / DK)
