Søren Kristiansen Trio

Søren Kristiansen (Piano / DK)Thomas Ovesen (Bass / DK)Alex Riel (Drums / DK)

Søren Kristiansen has accompanied many great American musicians and is today considered as one of the leading Danish jazz musicians. He comes from an era before jazz pianists were produced in educational facilities with shining pianos. Instead, like many other great musicians, he has been mentored in clubs by the ones who came before him. In recent years, Søren Kristiansen has released a series of critically acclaimed records in his own name and stands out as one of the most personal pianists that we have today, whilst keeping in check with tradition at the same time. Thomas Ovesen will accompany him on the bass and Alex Riel on the drums.

Christina Von Bülow (Alto Sax / DK)Palle Danielsson (Bass / SE)Eliot Zigmund (Drums / US)

We are hosting Danish saxophonist Christina von Bülow together with two legendary musicians in the shape of the Swedish bassist Palle Danielsson and the American drummer Eliot Zigmund. Christina von Bülow has through decades enticed the Danish jazz audience with her beautiful lyrical tone on the saxophone. Together with Palle Danielsson and Eliot Zigmund we are dealing with two musicians of the highest level, who have played with musicians such as Lee Konitz, Jim Hall and Michael Petrucciani. Eliot Zigmund was in fact part of Bill Evans Trio for several years, while Palle Danielsson is known for his work in the 70s with Keith Jarret and Jan Garbarek. You can expect a beautiful, thoughtful and playful night in the name of jazz.

Ronnie Cuber & Danish All Stars B-3 Band

Ronnie Cuber (Baritone sax / US)Kjeld Lauritsen (Hammond B3 / DK)Krister Jonsson (Guitar / SE)Andreas Svendsen (Drums / DK)

The baritone saxophone does not belong among the most frequently used instruments in jazz music but it certainly carries a legacy within the genre. One of the biggest musicians who has done it justice is without a doubt Gerry Mulligan. Fellow American Ronnie Cuber is a modern master on the baritone saxophone and certainly one of the finest representatives of the instrument on the international jazz scene. Ronnie Cuber has played with B. B. King, Lee Konitz, Frank Zappa and many others. Kjeld Lauritsen will accompany him on the organ, Krister Jonsson on the guitar and Andreas Svendsen on the drums.

Lars Thorborg has put his mark on the Danish and European jazz scene. To a greater degree than most, he has shaped and formed the framework for the Danish jazz environment. In 1982 he started as an employee at Montmartre in Nørregade. Later he became CEO and music director of Copenhagen Jazzhouse, and in his 17-year period in this position, Jazzhouse got an international reputation. Lars Thorborg has also been president of the Europe Jazz Network. In other words, this lecture will give a rare insight when Lars Thorborg talks about experiences and anecdotes from his 30 years of work in the service of jazz.

The band has decided to compose exclusively new music, designed for the place and the evening. More information will be released later on. The Copenhagen based group was founded in the fall of 2016 and have since then been playing concerts in venues all over Denmark. In april 2017 they won the Youth Jazz competition when they blew away a sold out Copenhagen JAZZHOUSE. The latest concert by the group was played during this summers Copenhagen Jazzfestival, where the band arranged an ambitious concert at Litteraturhaus, where 130 people could experience the band in their own scenography. ALAWARI! composes music inspired by free-jazz, as well as more contemporary improvisation music, classical impressionism, the traditional jazz tradition and northern spaciousness.

OBS: Entré 50 kr for studerende/u26

I April 2017 vandt ALAWARI!

Jacob Fischer 50th Anniversary: Remembering Svend

Jacob Fischer (Guitar / DK)Bjarke Falgren (Violin / DK)Matthias Petri (Bass / DK)

We are hosting four special nights where we celebrate the 50th birthday of the great Danish guitarist Jacob Fischer. For this edition Jacob Fisher will pay tribute to the late violinist, Svend Asmussen. The violin has had a substantial role in Jacob Fischer’s life as a musician playing with artists such as Finn Ziegler and Kristian Jørgensen. A turning point in Jacob’s career was when he met the legendary violinist Svend Asmussen who passed away earlier this year, whom he played with from 1992 until their last recording in Florida in 2010. The meeting with Svend gave Jacob a direct link to jazz history and the musicians that Svend has played with such as Django Reinhard and Fats Waller. Joining him on the violin this time around is Bjarke Falgren, who has known Svend personally and inherited a large amount of Sven’s music notes. Svend Asmussen has called Bjarke Falgren nothing less than the “hardest swinging jazz-fiddler I’ve heard since “Stuff” Smith”. Accompanying Jacob and Bjarke on stage will be the talented young bass player, Matthias Petri, who recently returned back home to Denmark after having studied for a couple of years in New York at Manhattan School of Music. We can look forward to a beautiful celebration of the legacy that Svend Asmussen left behind.

Jacob Fischer 50th Anniversary: 3 Generations!

Jacob Fischer (Guitar / DK)Jesper Thilo (Tenor / DK)Anders Fjeldsted (Bass / DK)

We are hosting four special nights where we celebrate the 50th birthday of the great Danish guitarist, Jacob Fischer. For this edition you can experience a line-up that spans across three different generations. One of the beautiful features of jazz is the way in which the music is interpreted from generation to generation, learned by ear and played on stage. Tenor sax champion, Jesper Thilo, just turned 75 and plays better than ever, especially together with the two younger forces joining him on stage. Jesper is one of the very few soloists of international calibre that Denmark has fostered. Jacob Fischer is a generation younger than Jesper but certainly a famous face on the Danish jazz scene. For many years he has been one of the most diligent musicians in Denmark, and many have heard him in Svend Asmussen's quartet that he played with for over 15 years as well as the many concerts with Finn Ziegler and Hugo Rasmussen. Today he is in the mist of a successful international career with tours in both the US and Japan with top American musicians such as Scott Hamilton, Warren Vaché and Harry Allen. Jacob and Jesper will perform together with one of the great talents on the Danish jazz scene in the shape of bass player, Anders Fjeldsted. It will be a night of three generations joining together on stage, picking the best music from their repertoire, telling their stories and experiences in the world of music from the perspectives of different generations.

Jacob Fischer Trio Ft. Fracesco Cali

Jacob Fischer (Guitar / DK)Francesco Calí (Piano / Bandeneon / IT)Andreas Møllerhøj (Bass / DK)Andreas Svendsen (Drums / DK)

We are hosting four special nights where we celebrate the 50th birthday of the great Danish guitarist, Jacob Fischer. For this edition you can experience Jacob Fischer Trio feat. Francesco Cali. This constellation has been Jacob Fischer's regular group since 2011 when they released their album, "Django", in 2011. Accordion and acoustic guitar is an invigorating and remarkable combination. The excitement at the venues they have played has been touching and overwhelming. Jacob Fischer has composed a string of new songs for the group inspired by both gypsy jazz and Brazilian choro. There is also a touch of Italian soundtrack music and a few surprising Danish standards in the repertoire such as "Huset på Christianshavn". Among the group we can look forward to hearing Andreas Møllerhøj who is a breath of fresh air with his acoustic bass together with Andreas Svendsen, who has developed extraordinary drumming skills. With the addition of Francesco Cali, the music will get a charming southern touch, which also can be heard on the aforementioned highly rated album, "Django".

To perform the Christmas songs she loves most, she is accompanied of Marius Neset on tenor sax, Sebastian Studnitzky at the piano, Lars Danielsson on bass and Morten Lund behind the drum set. This is a rare opportunity to experience Cæcilie Norby in a very intimate setting and with space for musical surprises in the spark of the moment.

Bobo Moreno/Ole Kock Hansen/Bo Stief

Bobo Moreno (Vokal / DK)Ole Kock-Hansen (piano / DK)Bo Stief (bass / DK)

The concerts between Christmas and New Year with this trio have become a popular tradition with sold-out houses. Bobo Moreno is superbly supported by two of Denmark's greatest jazz musicians throughout the ages. Whether the trio is performing in numbers by Paul Simon, Duke Ellington or songs from the Danish song tax, it always happens with a fantastic musical surplus. We can safely say that the trio will warm well up to the New Year.
