Tribute to Mr. Taste – Ed Thigpen

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Carsten Dahl (Piano / Rhodes / DK)Mads Vinding (Bass / DK)Karsten Bagge (Drums / DK)

The legendary American drummer Ed Thigpen, who resided in Denmark for several years, was dearly beloved and admired for his elegant drum playing. His unique play on cymbals and with brushes assigned him the well-deserved name “Mr. Taste”. Thigpen has played with basically every big name within the jazz genre; Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Pettiford, Oscar Peterson, Nancy Wilson, Monty Alexander, NHØP and Svend Asmussen among others. He also appeared on more than 1500 record releases – including 50 recordings with Oscar Peterson Trio. In Denmark, he gave lessons and acted mentor for selected, young Danish musicians – and was not least a colossal inspirator for the entire Danish jazz milieu.

In 2020, Ed Thigpen would have turned 90 years old and is therefore celebrated with two exclusive concerts by his Danish “favorite musicians”. The outstanding musicians Carsten Dahl, Mads Vinding and Karsten Bagge will this evening perform music collected from Thigpen’s own repertoire, while anecdotes from his long life in the service of jazz are told simultaneously.

Our restaurant is open before the concert.

Bollani/Bodilsen/Lund

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Stefano Bollani (Piano / IT)Jesper Bodilsen (Bass / DK)Morten Lund (Drums / DK)

The concept of telepathic interaction fits perfectly with this trio. Here is three musicians who think and react the same and therefore constantly challenge and play with each other.

Bollani's almost supernatural technique and solid insight into all genres are the trio's natural centerpiece; it is from Bollani that most initiatives come. But as soon as the signal is sent from the piano chair, the two Danes are ready to enter the conversation, and from here music outbursts wave in an eternally entertaining and constantly challenging, but never predictable stream.

Stylistically, this is a "classic" jazz piano setup, but the gentlemen Bollani/Bodilsen/Lund have carried the format to a gifted and sparkling level musically. Peter H. Larsen wrote in a review: “(…) the interaction with the two Danes has reached a nirvana point that is completely original - an expression I dare to compare with what Keith Jarrett has achieved with Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette ..."

Bobo Moreno/Ole Kock Hansen/Bo Stief

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Bobo Moreno (Vokal / DK)Ole Kock Hansen (Piano / DK)Bo Stief (Bass / DK)

Following our tradition this trio of international class delivers the festive concerts between Christmas and New Year. Bobo Moreno, Ole Kock Hansen and Bo Stief are all virtuoso artists who have established themselves strongly in the Danish music life with many successful concerts - including many sold out houses in Montmartre. Bobo Moreno's legendary vocal is in this trio given the focus his great talent deserves. The repertoire is carefully selected and consists of a wide selection from several different genres. The songs are interpreted in personal editions with the three musicians own original fingerprints. Together, the three musicians have created an open, entertaining and unpretentious style that provides space for delightful, uplifting and virtuoso music for all.

Our restaurant is open before the concert.

Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh: Whereabouts

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh (Guitar / DK)Adi Zukanovic (Keys / DK)Anders (Bass / SE)Jakob Høyer (Drums / DK)

Guitarist and composer Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh present his latest project Whereabouts. The project has developed over the past few years and culminates with the album “Whereabouts” expected to be released in the autumn of 2020. “Whereabouts” will be the second release from Oppenhagen Krogh following his acclaimed debut album Distill from 2017. While the upcoming album features a group of seven musicians, this concert will showcase the music in a smaller group with room to explore new facets of the material.

Whereabouts explores the intersection between written material and improvisation, simplicity and complexity, the relation between time and space and the sonic qualities of the musicians as a unity. The group consists of some of the leading musicians from the Danish music scene today, who have all worked across different genres and expressions and are known for their work with internationally recognized bands/artists such as Jakob Bro and IRAH among others.
